Animal Farm
by George Orwell, adapted by Theatre Workshop Coulsdon

Gallery
Manor Farm is on the verge of revolt. The animals are  neglected and abused by Mr Jones, their drunken owner,  and anger and a sense of injustice are growing. They dare to dream of taking their destinies into their own hooves, paws and claws. When man is gone, fairness and equality for all animals shall be the rule! Won’t it? TWC’s Summer 2025 open air production is a fast paced, physical, and occasionally frightening new adaptation of one of the most celebrated novels of the Twentieth Century – George Orwell’s ‘Animal Farm’, celebrating its 80th anniversary this August.
When the downtrodden farm animals rise up to overthrow their human oppressors, their dream of a society where all animals are equal soon collides with the seductive allure of privilege and the corrupting nature of political power. Bleakly comic in parts, this tale of rebellion, heroism, deception and betrayal is a case study in how quickly power corrupts, and how easily freedom can be stolen.
Orwell’s famous ‘fairy tale’ is a brilliant satire on the Russian revolution and the rise of Stalin, but its message is surely as relevant today as it was when Orwell was writing at the end of the Second World War. The writing is on the wall – literally: ‘All Animals Are Equal, But Some Animals Are More Equal Than Others’
